Nick Santo of The Capris Passes Away |
 |
|
Nick Santo was the original lead singer for the Capris, famous for such songs as There's A Moon Out Tonight, originally recorded for the tiny Planet record label in 1958 and reissued in the oldies revival of the early 1960's by Old Town records. Nick left the group in the early 1960's to work for the New York City Police Department although he would re-join the group in 1982 and remain with them until 2007 when he disbanded the group. A follow up to their big hit, called There's A Moon Out Again, was recorded some 20 years later, as well as a song Nick wrote called Morse Code Of Love (Baby Come Back To Me). The latter has become a doo wop standard even though it never charted for the group. Shortly after Nick disbanded the group in 2007 the Capris reformed with a new lead singer, and continue to perform to this day. The Capris were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2007. Nick and I met in Novermber 2007 at Cool Bobby B's Doo Wop Show in Las Vegas. |
